Stuff that goes bang

Alford Technologies have just opened their YouTube channel

Lots of interesting products, all of them designed to go bang including the Gatecrasher wall breaching systems and Vulcan counter mine system that can be fitted to the Royal Navy Seafox disposal UUV!

Click here to view the channel but the best of, below

And finally, don’t miss Dr Sidney Alfords presentation to the UK Pyrotechnics Society, a Life in Explosives!

My misspent youth remembered – potassium chlorate and other things!!!

Later in lab illegal use of iodine to make tri nitrogen iodide – made log books go bang when opened. (with nice violet smoke )

Illicit use of nitric and sulphuric acid to make guncotton.

Only real incident was the cleaning lady that used carbon disulphide (thinking it was acetic acid ) to clean kettle by putting it on gas burner.! Chief chemist wanted to know what smell of SO2 was.

Later made tonnage acetylene (in Northern Ireland) always felt dodgy when in the blast cells at end of pipeline.

Most impressive clips and lecture superb!

We would both have been locked up now.

I have had the pleasure of attending one of Sidney Alford’s lectures- tremendous fun. highlights included him lighting a piece of plastic explosive and holding it as it burned, before throwing it out of the window. He also announced that he had sent a pipebomb to the PM.

Always worth seeing.
