I’m not sure what the problem is? At Christmas you would expect Christmas message home stories, no? It keeps the forces in the news. Its also not demeaning, the trials of long distance relationships are part and parcel of service life. Anything that makes that easier is to be welcomed.

That is beyond words.

Nelson must be hitting about 10,000 rpm at the moment.

TD, yes maybe you are right… although Phil, Nelson – unlike Wellington – had a sense of humour and was something of a ladies man… Famously Wellington upon his only meeting with Nelson said “Nelson behaved in a ridiculous fashion, talking ‘in a style so vain and silly as to surprise and disgust me.’ Didn’t stop him whacking the frogs.

@ Phil – so that would be the same Nelson who mooned about the Med in pursuit of his Mistress for months on end…and indeed the same Wellington who called his Staff Officers his “Family” and required them to fill out a pair of breeches to advantage, and dance the gavotte and quadrille with panache whilst pursuing society beauties at least as much as they studied the art and science of war?

Personally, I have always felt that the long-proven ability of HMAF to slaughter the Queen’s enemies with ruthless efficiency and then put the soft hats on and start a game of footie with the surviving locals as being at least as scary as strutting about the place pumped up with steroids honing one’s warrior ethos. Our long-proven ability to killi cheerfully and efficiently without needing to get revved up with a daily five minute hate does indeed makes the nation a touch…scary…like the geeky feeble block in Con Air known to cook and consume his victims who has a make-believe tea party and singalong with the cute kid in the empty pool before disappearing into the desert looking for lunch!
