Ascension Island, in the Mid-Atlantic, would play a decisive role in the 1982 Falkland conflict and arguably, the operation to retake the islands would have been impossible without it.

I suspect there referring to the Strategic Fuel Reserve Depot on Ascension Island. After the Ink Dried on the Lend Lease Act of March 1941, the US 38th Engineering Corps. set about the Modification of Ascension Island in January 1942. One of which included a Fuel Depot. By 1982 ~1.5-Billion Liters of “Belvoir” Fuel or NATO NDF (Naval Distillate Fuel) F-76 (i.e. DAAK 70-87-C-0043) was on Ascension, enough to supply the Fuel Needs of the African Continent for 19-days…
