DGM/1737 – 40 mm Medium Velocity/Extended Range Grenades Feasibility Study. he Defence Equipment and Support, Defence General Munitions Project Team is seeking to conduct a feasibility study of existing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) 40 mm Medium Velocity/Extended Range Grenades.
This study will consider only products with a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 8 or above [TRL8: Actual Technology system completed and qualified through test and demonstration]. No products under development will be considered.
Currently, there is not a unified standard defining Medium Velocity / Extended Range 40 mm grenades. Therefore, the grenades required shall be 40 mm Medium Velocity / Extended Range ammunition that is compatible with the current in-service H&K AG36 L17A1, L123A2 and L123A3. The above weapons are currently configured to fire 40mm low velocity grenades using 40x46mm low velocity calibre cartridge cases. Medium Velocity / Extended Range 40mm ammunition that does not use a 40x46mm low velocity calibre cartridge case may be submitted where the ammunition is compatible with the above listed weapons.
Threshold range of the grenades shall be 600 m with an objective of 800+m. The grenade variants covered by this study are as follows: High Explosive Dual Purpose, Practice Impact Marker, Illuminating with Parachute, Infra-Red Illuminating with Parachute, Smoke, Thermal Marking.
Further to the above and as a result of assessment of responses the Authority may request samples of products that meet the above requirements. Manufacturers are therefore requested to provide a manufacturing delivery schedule for direct delivery to a nominated test establishment in UK for 18 grenades (1 x box M2A1) of each variant. Sample ammunition will be required to be provided free of charge.
