The USA has signed a deal with Lockheed Martin for both LRIP 6 and LRIP 7 for the first time. The F35 A will now cost $98 million in batch 7. These figures do not include engines and its reported in aviation week that the engines in batch 6 cost $16 million for the A version and $38 million for the B version.
That would suggest that our F35 B’s are working out around $150 million each but it’s heartening to note that the B variant continues to see the biggest percentage drop.
We should also note that the aircraft is still in pre production and has seen some substantial drops in price. Hopefully the price was continue to fall once full production begins around 2017.
In other news South Korea would now have appeared to have selected the F35 for it’s future fighter and it looks like it will re-write the rules in the competition to favour the F35 with possibly a smaller buy than the 60 they were looking for.
