Think Defence hopes to start sensible conversations about UK defence issues, no agenda or no campaign but there might be one or two posts on containers, bridges and mexeflotes!

    Thanks guys and welcome to the new commenters

    They say the golden rule of blogging is not to take your readers for granted which is why its sometime good to stop and just say cheers.

    You can of course continue to heap praise

    Just sayin!!

    X, touche, the boys at High Wycombe are on to your provocations

    Chuck, you know what they say about opinions, like arseholes, everyone has one :)

    Paul, is it that transparent?

    Simon, exactly

    JMC, bloody sheds, you can’t move for them on ARRSE

    So many subjects to write about;

    Am working on posts on the F35, the long slow demise (or not) of the tank, a refresh of the SIMSS piece, the second part of the recent T26 article, Land Systems Open Architecture, another look at pallets and containers (sorry), RAF Stanley in the early days, the rise of cheap turboprop platforms, the Malvern Bridge in Afghanistan and something on the disposal of poo on the the modern battlefield

    Watch this space

    I thought High Wycombe just made chairs, or was I dreaming it?
    TD

    Is it sad that every one of those posts sounds fascinating?

    Cheers TD, it’s always good to see how others do things, that way, we can try to keep the good, avoid the bad, and more importantly, go: “So THAT is why they do things that way!”. Opening up to new mindsets helps in alternate thinking to problem solving and keeps the mind limber. Not a small consideration in us old foogies.

    So here’s to your contribution against senility TD! :)

    It is society that should be thanking you, TD, for keeping many of these argumentative people occupied and off the streets.

  10. The Other Chris

    Always enjoy reading the articles and comments here, better than just stopping by to click on the adverts ;)

    @Brian Black

    As well as out of government!

    Thanks for all the very informative articles and replies over the years, it is nice to read what is really going on and not half the ill-informed, biased and sensationalist rubbish one can read in newspapers and other media etc. Think Defence, Gabriele, Sir Humphrey and America’s Defense News are the best no doubt.

    This was the first military blog I took the plunge on and still the only one I check out every day if I can. Was attracted by:
    1/ The quality of the articles;
    2/ The quality of the comments;
    3/ The quality of the links, many posted by the commentators;
    4/ Not everyone here takes themselves TOO seriously – we probably won’t change the world y’know. Although the canals may be seen from space!

    @ John H

    I always think High Wycombe needs a good ironing.

    @ WiseApe re canals and space

    True. Probably from a satellite placed in space by a foreign built Skylon because yet again HMG threw British innovation under a train. Assuming that is the train is on time…..

    TD – you da man dude ! As per the WiseApe, I check the RSS feed for this site daily, if not more frequently !! Don’t let the work inforced lack of recent commenting fool ya….

    An excellent blog TD. In no small part due to the exceptional articles written by your good self.

    The rest of us just aspire to reach the high standards you have set.

    To add my 1/2 penneth worth to the list. Thank you, though I don’t get the time to post my own brand of b*ll**ks as often as I’d like. Incidentally, I’m posting this after seeing the piccies of Corsican Lion on TD and while watching a report of “joint RM and French Marines” on exercise on BBC news . . . you seem to have scooped Auntie, TD! :-D

  17. Brian

    It’s a privilege to Thank You for your consistently excellent blog, TD. And Thank You to all the other commenters for your erudition and humour.

    Getting in late on the replies!

    I have have been fascinated with military matters, and the British side of things in particular for many years but never had anyone who was equally interested to debate with and listen to.

    I’m only in my mid 20s and I always thought that I knew my stuff so it was a bit of a shock when I began reading and realised their are so many people who know more than me and don’t mind sharing they’re views! Far from being intimidated by my inadequacy it has just made me want to sit up, listen and learn.

    Thank you TD for keeping me consistently entertained and informed!
