Which brings us back to the perennial question: Why does the RN not have any MTB/MGB thingys floating around the coast looking agressive. [They might even be adapted to perform modern-day MCM-sweeps and such-like.]
The answer – obviously – is we do not need them. Whilst the highlighted vessels could – in extremis – perform the role, the development capability already exists. Looking at my AirFix 1/72 RNLI tub (unconstructeed) is enough for me to understand the capability is there (albeit not on Day-One of a conflagration The Navy have higher priorities…!

Small catamarans are popular with divers because of the large flat area aft, the wide beam for displacement giving them a good access to the water. So Hampshire have just followed the norm for the sector. They are not been innovate buying a catamaran. Police boats are cool; Hampshire have 9 which given the geography of their patch is understandable.
