For all you kit monsters…

Soldiers of Charlie Company, 1 Rifles are pictured on patrol during Operation Tor Tapus in the Nawa area of Helmand, Afghanistan. More than 500 men and women from 1 Rifles are presently deployed on operations. The battalion has more than 300 committed to the vital, challenging and rewarding work that is the mentoring of the Afghan National Army in numerous bases spread across Helmand.

Both Marines are wearing newly issued Mk7 helmets and Mk8 Osprey body armour and are dressed in Multi Terrain Pattern (MTP) camouflage.

They’re wearing one of a spate of bizarre models of body armour in their bought-down-the-Market colours (and indeed quality) that were prevailing around 2010. I remember at least three different types and they tried to issue me a set and I was unimpressed, so I broke it on purpose – which wasn’t hard to do because it was shit.
