About Think Defence

Think Defence hopes to start sensible conversations about UK defence issues, no agenda or no campaign but there might be one or two posts on containers, bridges and mexeflotes!

OMG – as if we needed more evidence that UK MOD is massively in denial (its not just a river you know..) ref T45 first they say PAAM’s is not working, they don’t know when it will, but a T45 still has self defence capability (yep, 1 x 4.5inch gun, 2 x 30mm canon and some machine guns – whopee-frickin-doo), oh and ‘space’ to fit Phalanx (an obsolete CIWS) but then they actually go on to state:

“The Type 45 is an Air Defence Destroyer providing protection from air attack for a task
group in addition to other roles. The Type 45, with its Principal Anti Aircraft Missile
System, Sea Viper, and the Samson Radar is arguably the most effective Anti Air Warfare
platform in the world.” – WTF ???

As if that was not bad enough, apparently we only need 6, not 8 or even 12 because they are to be fitted with Cooperative Engagement Capability:

“Since then knowledge of the capabilities of the Class has improved as the design and build
of the ships have progressed and the programme to fit the Co-operative Engagement Capability system took shape. The Department therefore revisited the requirement for eight ships and concluded that six vessels were sufficient to meet the most likely operational scenarios.” – Are you frackin’ kidding me – who do the six ships cooperate with ? What do we engage with exactly ? What we provide one ship with great radar and then engage via CEC with USN or Ducth or German launched SM2′s ?? This crap just beggars belief.

I am simply frothing too much to comment on the rest of this political spin !

Well that was interesting…. It seems that the NAO have got it all wrong. The MoD have been examining all of the issues that were raised and have already taken action to rectify the situation, so basically carry on as normal.

FRES… Well the MoD have (whilst burning money at an alrming rate) have actually decided that they don’t need bespoke kit after all and it would be better to buy the best “off-the-shelf” kit! This is despite previous statements to the contrary, repeatedly saying that nothing off-the-shelf WAS suitable. Suddenly everything has changed and the MoD have actually adopted the best possible approach to vehicle provision.

They must have some very clever writers in the MoD who can make a total fcuk-up sound like a superbly managed “model’ programme.

I take a slightly different view. They got the whole thing wrong, refused to listen all the independent reviews that said they were doing it wrong and advised them what they should be doing. Finally when they have wasted close to £500million and the money is about to run out, they decide to do it the way they were advised, but this time its THEIR idea and aren’t they wonderful!!!

This sums up the MoD, they are totally fcuking useless, but think they are the mutts nuts and are incapable of learning or even admitting that they have a problem.
